Runway Overrun in Kentucky: Citation XL Gear Collapses, Four Walk Away

A Cessna 560XL, registration N476JL, was substantially damaged during a runway overrun near Danville, Kentucky, on February 6, 2026, at about 0925 local time. The aircraft struck a snow berm beyond the runway end at Stuart Powell Field Airport (DVK), and all three landing gear collapsed. The two flight crewmembers and two passengers were not injured.

The flight was conducted under 14 CFR Part 91 as a personal flight. According to the pilot, the planned itinerary was Danville (DVK) to Bowling Green-Warren County Regional Airport (BWG), with the intent to continue to Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA) after picking up a passenger at BWG.

The pilot and copilot completed a preflight walk-around inspection using a checklist. Preflight paperwork was completed and weather was checked for both airports. The crew added 5,000 pounds of fuel, resulting in a projected takeoff weight of 18,000 pounds.

During taxi to DVK’s 5,000-foot-long runway, the crew completed the before-takeoff checklist, which included verifying and checking flight control position and movement. The pilot reported no anomalies were noted with the airplane prior to takeoff.

The takeoff roll was initiated. At 103 knots, the pilot pulled back on the control yoke; however, the airplane did not rotate and all three landing gear remained on the runway. The pilot reported verifying airspeed was above 103 knots and that the airplane would still not rotate. The pilot then decided to abort the takeoff.

The pilot applied maximum braking and deployed thrust reversers. The airplane began to decelerate, but the pilot reported that insufficient runway remained to stop. The airplane contacted a snow berm at the end of the runway and all three landing gear collapsed.

After the initial impact, the airplane traveled about 450 feet before coming to rest in a field. The main landing gear were forced up through the wings, resulting in substantial damage. No fire or explosion was reported.

Weather at DVK at 0915 local time included wind from 210 degrees at 10 knots, 10 miles visibility, scattered clouds at 12,000 feet AGL, temperature -1°C, dew point -5°C, and an altimeter setting of 29.76 inches of mercury. The report listed visual meteorological conditions and daylight at the time of the accident. An IFR flight plan was filed.

The aircraft was retained for further examination.
